National Art and Photography Competition : Now Open For Entries

Entries are now being sought for the WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition 2010, being held to celebrate World Wetlands Day, 2nd February, 2010.

World Wetlands Day is an international event proclaimed by the United Nations to raise awareness of, and celebrate wetlands.

The competition has categories for children and adults in Art and Photography, including Junior and Senior categories in the Children's Art sections.

Categories have been designed to give as many people as possible the opportunity to submit entries.  They include: Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts Open Art with a first prize of $1250; Central West Catchment Management Authority Children's Art Senior with a first prize of $1000; Murray-Darling Basin Authority Children's Art Junior with a first prize of $1000; and NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water Open Photography, with a first prize of $1250.

In addition to these major sponsors, many regional natural resource management groups and private companies are also supporting the competition.

The theme of the competition for 2010 is Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change, which is also the theme for World Wetlands Day 2010

WetlandCare Australia is a not-for-profit group dedicated to protecting and restoring Australian wetlands.

The winners of the competition will be notified on 18th December, 2009 and then publically announced on World Wetlands Day, 2nd February, 2010.

The competition is an excellent opportunity for all Australians to consider the importance of wetlands and what wetlands mean to them, in this time of water shortages, drought, and other impacts of climate change.

The closing date for competition entries is 4th December, 2009.

Competition entry forms and further information can be obtained from WetlandCare Australia's website: http://www.wetlandcare.com.au/
