2009 Waterwatch Yearbook

Waterwatch is a national community water quality monitoring program that engages regional communities in the planning, monitoring and management of natural resources. Waterwatch educates communities about the sustainable use and management of our precious water resources to generate water quality data that is credible and accepted amongst natural resource management agencies. The Waterwatch NSW Yearbook 08-09 highlights some of the partnerships, projects and groups that have allowed Waterwatch to reconnect with communities and catchments.

Soils Baseline Project: Northern Tablelands

This projects aimed to measure the soil health of the eastern Tablelands landscapes Tenterfield/Glenn Innes of the Northern Rivers CMA. The report includes 200 soil health data samples collected at 0-10cm and 10-20cm depths from 46 properties of differing land uses. Samples were measured for soil biological diversity, soil structure & compaction, no's of earthworms, plant health, soil pH, EC, Available P, Ca, Exchanagable Mg, K,Na,Al,CEC, total organic C & N) and assessments of ground cover & soil loss, root development).

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Audit to enhance

Involving the NRCMA as well as other stakeholders, this is one of several case studies of sustainability education projects from around NSW. The Aboriginal Cultural Heritage education audit aims to extend education for sustainability programs when developing, implementing or reviewing School Environmental Management Plans.

Soil & Water Management Practices for Blueberry Growers in northern NSW

These best management practice guidelines have been developed to guide new and existing blueberry growers in northern NSW. The focus is primarily on natural resource management (NRM) issues in relation to soil and water resources. This BMP primarily targets blueberry growers on steeplands with highly erodable soils in the northern NSW Region where high seasonal rainfall is a regular event.
